Why the lob league and slow pitch softball swing is the best swing to have!
The piece of paper went around at recess to see who was playing lob league baseball after school. This happened at least a couple times a week and every game had a different ball park with a different fence to hit over. You had the big red fence with the pool in the back yard or you had the park to hit over or the fence with the trees in front of the fence to see if you can hit it over the trees. How about the tennis courts where everybody thought they were hitting over the Big Green Monster?
Then you had your little league games to play during the week back in the 70’s on top of it. Me and a lot of my other friends who played lob league were always the best hitters in Little League.
Now a days a game like this would be frowned upon because it could ruin your swing right?
Not the way we here at Hubie Magic think about hitting! We know that the lob league games were developing our best swing, as we we were mimicking lots of our favorite stars like Willie Stargell or Reggie Jackson. Going for the fences forced us to use our hips correctly and the lob forced is to wait back. If we popped up we knew we were not doing it right and it was embarrassing. When playing our little league games or all- star games we still hit and for power. We were not thinking about our swings at all. We were going out and competing and had visions in our heads of the ball going over the the outfielders head from our lob league games.
Now a days kids are thinking about getting their front foot down, knob to the ball, kicking the back knee to the ball, and scheduling their next private batting lesson. I got to tell you, that I am happy I grew up when I did. Seems like it was a lot more fun.
Then in high school we played in a men’s slow pitch league with the adults while playing summer baseball. Again, our swing seemed fine and if anything, hitting off speed pitches came much easier.
Was this due to the arching pitch of a softball?
Well it makes you wait that is for sure, and I once trained a top 10 hitting Jr. College team in the nation by playing lots of fun 16 inch softball games at the end of our practices. I know this scares most of you and some might even think that an article like this just does not make sense.
The point is everyone is getting trained in their swings out there and getting away from natural swings that hitters really want to perform. It is no wonder that hitting at all levels is really struggling. The Major Leagues offensive stats are the worst since 1972, but yet the seriousness as to how people swing train is 10 times taken more seriously! What is this telling us?
That the charade is not working from the MLB on down!
The need to get back to a more natural swing is screaming it’s ugly head right now! As we speak, not many are getting the message! The message for most is to rely on more defensive type contact swings and look into the mechanics of the swing more seriously! What is the real lesson?
Hitting is more mysterious than you think and if you think that video analysis, private instruction, swing reports, or other high tech hitting systems or gadgets are going to help than get ready to keep bumping your head against the wall.
The fact is that our Hubie Magic Hitting Formula uses scientific techniques that play along with scientific natural law and are not even close to what is being taught professionally at this point. The lob league and softball games should give you a clue, but most hitters are too far gone to be able to squeeze this concept into their already programmed mind about hitting. For this reason we developed the exact training formula and techniques that helps the body reform back to its natural hitting state.
